INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS
-
Read the ENTIRE installation instruction sheet before attempting the
installation.
-
Check to see all parts are present and there is no damage to any part.
-
When cleaning, clean only areas that will be covered by dash appliqué as
discoloring may occur.
-
Use protective covers to avoid damage to the seating surfaces
-
Do not use shop rags for cleaning factory dash panels. Use paper towels only.
-
Do not spray cleaning solutions directly to factory dash surfaces.
-
Repeat cleaning steps (4-5 times) if a dash protectant has been applied to
factory dash panels. Test with masking tape for oily residue. If masking tape
peels without resistance, repeat cleaning procedure.
-
Air temperature and factory dash surfaces must be 75º Fahrenheit or more. (Warm
to the touch)
-
Do not touch adhesive backing prior to installation.
INSTALLATION STEPS
STEP 1. DRY FIT AND INSPECT ALL PARTS
-
Carefully check placement and alignment of each part to corresponding area of
factory dash before beginning installation.
STEP 2. DASH CLEANING AND PREPARATION
-
Clean dash surfaces by applying
Prep-Sol 70
(NOT INCLUDED IN MOST KITS). cleaner to a clean paper towel and thoroughly
clean each vehicle surface where the wood trim is to be applied. Wipe off the
Prep-Sol with a fresh clean paper towel before it completely dries. Fold towels
between each part cleaning and apply additional Prep-Sol cleaner as required.
-
Clean dash surfaces a second time using a paper towel and Alcohol
(NOT INCLUDED IN MOST KITS). Fold the paper towel several times during
the cleaning process to provide a fresh surface. Allow alcohol to dry
completely. Do not let the alcohol come into contact with any clear plastic
surfaces covering gauges, clocks, radios or warning lights.
-
To test surfaces to ensure proper cleaning apply a small piece of masking tape
to different area’s that have been cleaned. (Use a new piece of masking tape
for each area tested.) If the masking tape peels off without resistance, repeat
cleaning procedure. Repeat all cleaning steps until masking tape sticks
aggressively.
-
Apply Adhesive Promoter to all areas being covered with dash
appliqué.
-
(Step not required if using 3M promoter-less tape.)
STEP 3. TEMPERATURE
-
Vehicle surface temperatures must be at least 70 degrees F during the
installation of the interior trim. The interior trim part should be heated to
the point where it is very flexible. Use a hair blower to heat the vehicle
interior and trim parts as required.
STEP 4. REMOVAL OF PROTECTIVE BACKING
-
Remove the protective backing from one part at a time. Carefully pull downwards
so adhesive does not pull away from part. Lightly heat exposed adhesive to
improve bond.
STEP 5. INSTALLATION
-
Place dash appliqué on appropriate factory part and lightly tack into place
once properly aligned. On larger parts, install from side to side or top to
bottom. Do not adhere from center of part and try to work outwards. Check all
movable parts (buttons, switches, vents) to make sure they function properly.
